Kathy Keller was born and raised in Pittsburgh, and attended Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania. She attended Gordon Conwell Seminary, graduating summa cum laude with her MA in theological studies. At Gordon Conwell Kathy met Tim Keller, and the two were married in 1975 during their final year of seminary.
After graduation, they moved to Hopewell, Virginia, when Tim was appointed the interim pastor of West Hopewell Presbyterian Church. The interim position became a nine-year stay for the Kellers, who by then were a family of five. In 1984 Tim, Kathy and their three sons moved to Philadelphia when Tim joined the faculty of Westminster Theological Seminary.

In June of 1989 the Keller family moved to New York City to plant what would become Redeemer Presbyterian Church. In spite of her misgivings about moving to the Big Apple, Kathy says, "Contrary to my fears, New York City turned out to be the best place in the world to raise children."

In addition to raising her children and helping Tim plant Redeemer Presbyterian Church, Kathy has had a role as guest speaker to groups on such subjects as the Bible and gender roles, marriage and parenting, and church planting in global cities. Currently she is on the staff of Redeemer Presbyterian Church as the Assistant Director of Communications.
